The Temple College baseball team traveled to Wharton County Junior College in non-conference doubleheader action on Monday night.
The Leopards were stymied in the first game but snapped back in game two for the doubleheader split.
Wharton shut out Temple in the opener, 8-0. The Leopards beat the Pioneers in game two, 6-2.
Temple took the season series, 2-1.
Lance Cantrell had two hits, including a double, Andrew Ermis, and Hunter Baros collected the four Temple hits in the opener.
Wharton scored four times in the first, once in the second, and three times in the fourth.
David Bell homered and drove home four runs. Braylon Mitchell homered and doubled for the Pioneers.
Kade Davis took the loss for the Leopards.
Kolvin Davis started the Temple scoring in game two, as his groundout scored Cantrell to give Leopards a 1-0 lead.
After the Pioneers tied the game in third inning on a Lane Sparks homer, the Leopards pushed across four runs in the fourth inning. Kolvin Davis reached on an error that scored Ermis. Peanut Brazzle singled in Davis, Davis stole home, and Brazzle scored on a passed ball to put Temple up 5-1.
Cantrell drove home Kash Millar on a fielder's choice in the top of the sixth.
Jose Vargas scored on a double steal in bottom of the sixth to cap the scoring.
Ermis led the Leopards with three hits, and Kolvin Davis added to in Temple's nine-hit attack.
Eric Tenery picked up the win on the hill, as he pitched five innings, allowed one run on two hits, struck out six and walked two. Bralen Veazey pitched two innings, allowed one run on two hits, struck out three and walked two.
The 4-7 Leopards will host Angelina College in doubleheader play on Sunday at 1 pm and 3:30 pm at the Danny Scott Athletic Complex.
