Leopards Baseball hosts No. 3 Midland College on Friday

Leopards Baseball hosts No. 3 Midland College on Friday

The Temple College Leopards will host No. 3 Midland College in Region V baseball action at the Danny Scott Athletic Complex Friday afternoon at 3 pm.

The game kicks off a weekend of baseball at the complex. Saturday, the Leopards and Chaparrals play at 11 am. Midland and Navarro College will play at 2 pm, and the Bulldogs and Leopards will play after the completion of the 2 pm game.

Temple enters the weekend with a 5-9 record following a 17-4 win over University of Mary Hardin-Baylor JV on Monday in Belton. Jackson Todd went 3-of-5 with a homer and six RBI. Ryder Rutledge went 5-of-5 with three runs scored, Andrew Ermis went 2-of-2 with a homer and four RBI, Lance Cantrell went 3-of-5 with three RBI and two runs scored, and Brayden Simmons logged two hits, and four runs scored.

The Leopards are hitting .261 with a .385 on-base percentage with seven homers, and 63 runs batted in.

Ermis (.441 BA, .587 OBP, two homers, nine RBI, four doubles), Cantrell (.396 BA, .474 OBP, ten RBI), Rutledge (.379 BA, .538 OBP), Simmons (.359 BA, .509 OBP, homer, ten RBI), and Todd (.244 BA, .354 OBP, homer, ten RBI) are the offensive leaders for the Leopards.

On the mound, Patrick Collopy, Tobin Eschief, Eric Tenery, and Kade Davis have combined for the 14 starts. The staff earned run average is 5.54 with 75 runs allowed (59 earned) on 108 hits, 109 strikeouts, and 62 walks in 96 innings pitched. Opponents hit .310 against the TC staff.

The Chaparrals head into Friday with a 14-1 record, with the offense batting .427 and on-base percentage of .537. Midland has 155 runs on 149 hits, with 15 homers and 138 runs batted in. The Chaps also have 79 walks and 36 stolen bases.

Midland suffered its first loss of the season in the front end of a doubleheader against North Central Texas College on Wednesday in Gainesville, 7-1. The Chaparrals bounced back with a 14-4 win.

On the Midland College resume, the Chaparrals have three wins apiece over No. 12 Alvin Community College, Ranger College, and Trinidad State College, two wins over both Luna Community College and Seward County Community College, and one against NCTC.

Jorge Gil (.542 BA, .667 OBP, three homers, 17 RBI), Dylan Myrow (.526 BA, .635 OBP, HR, seven RBI, 11 walks, 13 SB), Josh Wulfert (.523 BA, .571 OBP, HR, 16 RBI), AJ Velarde (.447 BA, .458 OBP, 21RBI), and Colin Fisher (.444 BA, .500 OBP, two HR, 19 RBI), Stevyn Andrachick (.423 BA, .595 OBP, two HR, ten RBI, 12 walks), and Parker Ibrahimi (.351 BA, .556 OBP, three HR, 15 RBI, 16 walks) are among the offensive leaders for the Chaparrals.

Midland's pitching staff has a solid team earned run average of .311, has allowed 29 runs (20 earned) on 66 hits, struck out 112, walked 28, and teams have hit just .221 against them.

Jacob Kuhn (4-0, 20 innings pitched, one complete game, 0.45 ERA, 30 strikeouts, three walks), Logan Flores (2-0, one complete game, 13 1/3 innings pitched, 15 strikeouts, five walks), and Ryan Marton (2-0, 4.05 ERA, 16 strikeouts, nine walks) have the bulk of the starts for the Chaparrals. Keller Lindeman (2-0, 11 innings pitched, 19 strikeouts, one walk) is one of the bullpen arms that the Chaparrals count on the close out games.

The Leopards start North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at No. 7 McLennan Community College.
