Leopards’ bats roar, pitching staff steady in 10-1 win over Alvin

The Temple College Leopards baseball team hosted the Alvin Community College Dolphins in a non-conference ball game Monday afternoon at the Danny Scott Sports Complex.

The Leopards scored the final nine runs of the contest, having walked 11 times, and Andrew Ermis' two-run homer gave Temple a 10-1 win in seven innings.

Kade Davis led off the scoring with a solo homer over the right field wall with two outs in the bottom of the first.

Brice Smith answered with a solo homer over the right field wall to tie the game at 1-1. The Dolphins nearly took the lead, but an attempted swipe of home plate on a tag out by Temple catcher Enrique Perozo to retire the side.

Temple gave McLane two runs in third inning before pitching in the fourth, with Sage Sanders drawing a bases-loaded walk and Hunter Baros' ground ball being misplayed to score Davis to give Temple a 3-1 lead.

Baros extended the lead to 4-1 on an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth. In the sixth, Brayden Simmons and Davis scored on a wild pitches and Ermis scored on a fielder's choice lift Temple's lead to three.

The Leopards got their final three runs in the seventh. Davis grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Kash Millar. On a 1-1 pitch, Ermis homered over the centerfield wall for the run-rule walkoff.

Davis went 3-of-4 with four runs scored and two RBI. Ermis and Baros each had two RBI.

Starter Kennett McLane went 3 2/3 innings, had allowed a run on three hits, struck out four and walked one before handing off to Mason Gerrard to navigate through the next 3 1/3 innings. Gerrard allowed one hit, one walk, and struck out two.

Gabriel Rodriguez took the loss for Alvin, having allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and walked three.

The Dolphins' bullpen pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed seven runs on five hits, hit two batters, and walked eight.

Temple College will host Ranger College on Tuesday in doubleheader action that will start at noon. The twin bill was moved from Wednesday to Tuesday due to expected inclement weather.
