TC Baseball splits doubleheader with Navarro College

TC Baseball splits doubleheader with Navarro College

The Temple College baseball team hosted the Navarro College Bulldogs on Friday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at the Danny Scott Sports Complex.

The Leopards got two RBI from Chase Fricke in the opener but could not find the scoresheet in the second game as TC and Navarro split their 7-inning/9-inning doubleheader.

Temple won the opener 2-1 in game one, and Navarro shut the Leopards out in game two 3-0.

Fricke drilled a single in the bottom of the first inning to put the Leopards out front. He added a home run to right-centerfield in the fifth inning to give TC a 2-0 lead.

Navarro's biggest threat to tie the game in the seventh off Quentin Medrano. Jarrett Boswell sacrifice fly with one out in the inning scored Cooper Markle to bring the Bulldogs within a run. Medrano induced a groundout by Griffin Lyczkowski to end the game.

Fricke and Yarel Delgado each had two hits in Temple's seven-hit outing.

Joseph McMurtry had a solid start on the hill, as he scattered six hits in five innings, struck out nine and walked one. Kade Shaw pitched two-thirds inning of relief, allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out one. Medrano picked up the win as he pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowed one run on two hits, and walked one.

Lyczkowski had three hits, and Brayden Mulkey added a pair of hits in Navarro's 10-hit attack.

Navarro scored in the top of the second of game two. Steven Ramos singled in Roman Cariaga to give the Bulldogs their first lead of the afternoon.

The Bulldogs added a run on a bunt single by Brock DeYoung in the fifth inning, and a Ramos' RBI single in the top of the seventh.

Tommy Mulkern and Hagen Tijerina combined for a three-hitter, as Delgado, Hunter Baros, and Cameron Bartz had the only hits for Temple. Mulkern went five innings, allowed two hits, struck out three, and walked two. Tijerina pitched four innings, allowed one hit, struck out three, and walked two.

Kade Davis took the loss on the hill for the Leopards, having pitched five innings, allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits, struck out five, and walked two. Bralen Veazey pitched two innings of relief, allowed one run on two hits, one strikeout, and one walk. Collin Toedter pitched two innings, allowed two hits, and struck out two.

The Leopards will travel to take on Galveston College on Tuesday.
