TC Baseball sweeps DFW Post Grad

TC Baseball sweeps DFW Post Grad

The Temple College baseball team hosted Dallas Fort Worth Post Grad in a non-conference doubleheader at the Danny Scott Sports Complex.

The Leopards were tested in the opener but held on late and scored in all four innings of the second game as TC swept Dub City.

Scores of the games were 3-2 and 12-2 in five innings.

Temple (19-13) got three straight strikeouts from game one starter Joseph McMurtry in the first inning.

A single by Cameron Bartz and walk to Yarel Delgado set up Chase Fricke's fielder's choice. Sage Sanders' sacrifice fly scored Bartz to give TC a 1-0 lead.

After McMurtry struck out the side in the second, the Leopards set the table for a run in the bottom of the frame. Brody Cole doubled to lead off the inning, and Ricky Montijo's ground out moved Cole to third. Ryan Hunter lined a shot to left field for a double that scored Cole.

DFW scored on a ground out in the top of the fourth, which was answered by an RBI triple by Bartz that scored Easton Rinewalt to re-establish a two-run lead.

Saxon Smith's led off the top of the fifth with a triple and scored on an error to pull DFW to within a run, 3-2.

Bralen Veazey came on in relief of McMurtry in the seventh inning and struck out two to pick up the save.

McMurtry picked up the win, pitched six innings, allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out 11.

Bartz and Rinewalt each had two hits in Temple's eight-hit performance.

Phillip Trojanowski took the loss, pitched four innings, allowed three runs on six hits, walked two and struck out one. Daniel Garza pitched two innings and allowed two hits.

Temple jumped on DFW pitching from the outset of game two. Wade Stallones and Kash Millar pulled off a double-steal to score Stallones to put the Leopards on the board. Elias Leon-Padilla's RBI scored Kash Millar. Davis scored on Sanders' single to give Temple a 3-0 lead.

Bartz, Delgado, and Kanyon Millar scored on wild pitches and Davis scored on Leon-Padilla's single in the bottom of the second to increase Temple's lead to seven.

Samuel Marquez's single scored Jaden Fallesen and an error allowed Alijah Carter to score to clip the Leopards' lead back to five runs.

Hunter Baros scored on a wild pitch in the third inning to increase Temple's lead to six.

In the fourth inning, Sage Sanders' RBI double, Kanyon Millar scored on Bartz's walk, Sanders scored on a wild pitch, and Stallones' single scored Baros to put the game in run-rule territory.

Collin Toedter relieved Davis on the hill in the fifth inning and slammed the door to help the Leopards earn the sweep.

Stallones, Leon-Padilla, and Sanders each had two hits, with Sanders and Leon-Padilla driving in two runs. Davis scored three runs, and Kanyon Millar and Baros scoring two runs each.

Davis picked up the win on the hill, allowed two unearned runs on two hits, surrendered two walks and struck out four. Toedter struck out two of the three batters he faced.

The Leopards travel to Alvin on Monday to face Alvin Community College.
