Temple Baseball extends win streak to eight in 6-3 victory at Alvin

The Temple College baseball team traveled to Alvin on Monday afternoon to take on the Alvin Community College Dolphins in non-conference play.

Temple took an early lead and a held off a couple of Alvin rallies to log their eighth win in a row, 6-3.

The Leopards took the lead in the third inning. With one out, Wade Stallones doubled. With two outs, Kade Davis singled Stallones to third base. On a 2-1 offering, Chase Fricke singled home Stallones. Kanyon Millar reached on an error that scored Davis to give Temple a 2-0 lead.

Two Dolphins singled off Temple starting pitcher Kade Shaw in the bottom of the third. The Leopards went to the bullpen to bring on Zabien Urteaga to try to get out of the jam. Asa Sampson doubled home John Moya to put Alvin on the board. Urteaga struck out Jackson Castillo to end the inning.

The Leopards worked past a Dolphins' threat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Nayden Ramirez singled to right field. After James Dorotik fouled out to Fricke in foul territory, Elias Padilla-Leon fired down to Kash Millar at second base to catch Ramirez stealing to end the inning.

Back-to-back walks to Kash Millar and Davis set up Kanyon Millar's three-run homer to center field to give the Leopards a 5-1 lead in the top of the fifth.

The Dolphins loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fifth. Sampson's ground out to Fricke scored Moya to clip the deficit to three runs.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Dolphins loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batsman. Ivan Marron's sacrifice fly reduced Alvin's margin to two runs. Following a walk, Leon-Padilla and Bralen Veazey teamed up to catch Ramirez stealing home. Veazey induced a Hunter Henry groundout to end the Alvin rally.

The Leopards threatened in the top of the seventh inning with two outs, as Easton Rinewalt walked and stole second base, and Ryan Hunter reached on a dropped third strike that moved Rinewalt to third. Jordan Lowery picked up a strikeout to end the Leopards' threat.

Brody Cole was inserted as a pinch-hitter in the top of the eighth with two outs and double to right field. Cole scored on Davis' double to right. Following a walk to Fricke, Alvin induced a flyout in foul territory ended Temple's rally and kept the Leopards at a 6-3 advantage.

Temple got a pair of two-out singles in the ninth from Ricky Montijo and Cameron Bartz. However, Alvin induced a ground out to keep the margin at three runs heading to the bottom of the ninth.

Hudson Depriest had a two-out single in the ninth. Sampson's groundout to Fricke at first base ended to game, as the Leopards held one for the three-run victory.

Temple collected 12 hits in the game. Stallones, Davis, Leon-Padilla, and Bartz each had two hits for the Leopards. The Leopards stole five bases, led by Fricke with two.

The Leopards used nine pitchers and combined to allow three runs on six hits, strikeout ten, walk six, and hit a batter.

Alvin used nine pitchers, allowed six runs (five earned) on 12 hits, struck out 13, walked five, and hit a batter.

Temple has outscored opponents during the eight-game win streak, 55-23.

The Leopards return to North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference action on Wednesday as they host Cisco College in doubleheader action, starting at noon.
