TC Baseball sweeps home doubleheader over Ranger, wins series 3-1

The Temple College baseball team hosted Ranger College on Thursday afternoon at the Danny Scott Sports Complex with goals of winning the series against the Rangers after a split on Wednesday at Ellis Burks Field.

The Leopards received plenty of offense and the pitching and defense were on point as Temple swept the doubleheader.

Scores of the games were 10-0 (six innings) and 9-3.

Joseph McMurtry got the game one start for Temple. He allowed a leadoff single to Ashton Fisher and a one-out walk to Jeremiah Torres. McMurtry induced a fielder's choice for the second out and struck out Brandon Leon. The two outs started a stretch of 17 straight Ranger batters retired.

The Leopards hit the scoreboard in the bottom of the second. Peanut Brazzle singled home Kanyon Millar and Cameron Bartz singled home Brazzle to give Temple a 2-0 lead.

Temple picked up three runs in the third inning. Elias Leon-Padilla singled in Kade Davis, and Brazzle tripled home Kanyon Millar and Leon-Padilla to extend the Leopards' lead to 5-0.

Davis' fielder's choice scored Wade Stallones in the fourth. Kanyon Millar's double scored Davis and Chase Fricke's single scored Kanyon Millar to extend the Temple advantage to 8-0.

Kanyon Millar's two-run homer over the right centerfield fence ended the first game in run-rule fashion. He was 2-for-2 with four runs scored, a double, home run, three RBI, and four runs scored.

Brazzle also went 2-for-2 with a run scored, triple, and three RBI.

McMurtry allowed one hit and one walk, while he struck out seven in six innings for the complete game win.

Temple jumped on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first in the second game. Kash Millar's one-out double and two-out walks to Kanyon Millar and Fricke brought Brazzle to the play. On the first pitch from Ranger starter Jamison Adams, Brazzle blasted a double in the left field corner to clear the bases and give Temple a 3-0 lead. Hunter Baros scored Brazzle to extend the lead to four. Ricky Montijo's two-run homer made the score 6-0, and knocked Adams from the game.

Caleb Lopez's single put Ranger in the board in the second, which immediately was answered by Temple with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Davis drove home Stallones with a single, Kash Millar scored on Kanyon Millar's ground out, and Brazzle's sacrifice fly gave Temple an eight-run lead, 9-1.

Sam Kelley's RBI in the top of the third and scored in the eighth inning on a balk to round out the scoring.

Kash Millar went 5-for-5 with two runs scored, Brazzle went 2-for-3 with four RBI, and Montijo added two RBI.

Davis picked up the win, as he went seven innings, allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out six and walked one.

Temple (27-16 overall, 13-7 NTJCAC) will take on Hill College on Wednesday (April 15) in Hillsboro.
