The Temple College Leopards basketball teams were exceptionally busy this week, as the men had a four-game week, and the women had two games.
Here is a snapshot of the week in Temple College athletics
Men take two non-conference tilts, drop pair at Texan Classic
The Temple College Leopards men's basketball team started their week on Monday, as they welcomed in Dallas College Mountain View.
Temple led by 17 points twice in the second half and held on for an 80-75 win.
TC led the Lions at the half, 36-35. Mountain View fought back from a pair of 17 deficit, having pulled to within three points at one stretch and within a point inside the final two minutes.
Jason Ward led the Leopards with 18 points, Jaymes Brown-Peterson scored 14 off the bench, and Josh Telfort contributed 13.
On Wednesday, the Leopards hosted Strength 'N Motion International.
TC trailed 31-30 with four minutes to go before the Leopards put together a 20-0 run that stretched into the second half, as Temple routed SMNI 92-61
At one point, the Leopards outscored Strength 'N Motion 31-2 and was able to clinch the 31-point win.
Thirteen different Leopards scored, with Telfort and Logan Myers each with 12 points.
On Friday, the Leopards traveled to Levelland to take part in the Texan Classic.
Their first game was against the host, No. 17 South Plains College.
The Texans starting five combined for 57 points as South Plains upended the Leopards, 88-53.
SPC led at the half, 43-31, and outscored the Leopards in the second half, 45-22.
Roy Gardner led the Leopards with 10 points, and Telfort added nine.
On Saturday, the Leopards completed their weekend stay at the Texan Dome as they took on No. 21 Frank Phillips College.
The Plainsmen broke away from the Leopards in the middle part of the first half and cruised to a 74-61 win.
FPC led by 45-25 at halftime and led by 22 points early in the second half.
The Leopards chipped away to get the margin to 13 but could not get the game closer.
Ward and Gilchrist each scored 11 points off the bench for the Leopards.
The road ahead for the Leopards
Temple will have just one game over the next ten days, as they will travel to the metroplex to take on Dallas College North Lake on Tuesday.
Women's basketball split at WTC Classic
The Temple College women's basketball team traveled to Snyder on Thursday to play at the WTC Classic in Snyder.
On Thursday evening, the Leopards took on the host Western Texas College.
The Leopards and Westerners were neck-and-neck throughout the contest. However, WTC clinched the win, 48-44.
Mychie White scored 16 points and Imani McCray and Biva Byrd each scored eight points.
TC ended their stay in Snyder with a matchup against Clarendon College.
Jaylice Rosario scored all six Temple College points in overtime, as the Leopards knocked off the Bulldogs, 72-69.
Clarendon shot 60% from the field in the first quarter and led 21-14 at the end of the first ten minutes.
Janiya Davis scored seven of Temple's 23 points in the second quarter, as the Leopards bounced back to lead 37-31 at the halftime break.
Both teams stayed within arm's reach of one another throughout the second half. Temple led 66-61 with 1:24 to go before the Bulldogs responded with two field goals to force overtime.
Rosario hit three field goals and had a block in a 1:23 stretch to give Temple a 72-66 lead. The Bulldogs split the margin late but could not get the final shot to fall.
White added 12 points, and Gabby Edo chipped in nine points.
The week ahead for the Leopards
Temple will have one game this upcoming week, with the Leopards hosting Blinn College on Tuesday afternoon on Kirby Johnson Court at 5 p.m.
