The Leopards Athletic Report (Week of Nov. 25-Dec. 1)

By Tony Adams, Temple College

The Temple College athletic teams had a short, but adventurous Thanksgiving week.

Each basketball team had one game on their schedule, both of which had a plethora of scoring.

Here is the recap of last week's action and a look ahead to post-Thanksgiving week activities:

Men's basketball routs North Lake on road, 99-70

The Temple College men's basketball team traveled to the Metroplex on Tuesday night, as they took on Dallas College – North Lake.

Eleven Leopards scored on a night where head coach Dr. Cliff Ellis flexed his bench, as Temple defeated the Blazers, 99-70.

Temple maintained a large lead through the first half, and led at the break, 52-35.

The Leopards outscored the Blazers in the second half, 47-35.

TC shot 44.4% from the field, which included 28.6% from behind the three-point line, and 19-of-25 from the free throw line. The Leopards also logged 26 assists and 25 steals.

Josh Telfort scored 24 points on 12-of-19 shooting and pulled down nine rebounds. Rasuan Collier added 18 points and Logan Myers scored 11 off the bench.

Two at home this week for the Leopards

The men will have two games on Kirby Johnson Court this week.

On Wednesday, the Leopards will take on Strength 'N Motion International at 5 p.m. On Dec. 20, the Leopards defeated SNMI, 92-61.

On Saturday, Temple will host Lackland in the third game of a triple-header at Kirby Johnson Court at 4 p.m.

Women drop heartbreaker to Blinn College, 78-76

The Temple College Leopards women's basketball team hosted the Blinn College Buccaneers Tuesday night in a pre-Thanksgiving tilt on Kirby Johnson Court.

In a thrilling game that went down to the finish, Temple's attempt to tie was knocked down at the horn as Blinn managed to escape with a 78-76 win.

Temple led 21-17 before the Buccaneers' 9-0 gave the visitors a 26-21 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Blinn pushed their lead out to seven, with 4:31 to go in the first half.

Temple closed the half on a 12-6 stretch to pull to within a point at the break, 44-43.

The Buccaneers pushed their lead to seven points before the Leopards battled back to within a point. Blinn led 61-57 at the end of 30 minutes.

Blinn had a 77-73 lead inside the final minute when Imani McCray hit a three-pointer to pull to within a point.

TC hauled a rebound after a missed field goal with 0.7 to play.

The inbound pass found Aniyah Lewis to the right side of the basket. Lewis was hit twice during the act of shooting, neither of which the officials saw. The ball glanced off the rim and away from the basket as the horn sounded.

Tocarra Johnson led Blinn with 22 points. Joneshia Neal and Ja'Nya Thomas added 15 points each for the Buccaneers, who converted 19-of-30 free throw attempts.

Jaylice Rosario scored 23 points on 9-of-14 free throw attempts. McCray scored 22 points, which included four three-pointers.

The Leopards shot 12-of-18 from the free throw line.
