TC men’s basketball survives late surge from Collin County, wins 81-76

The Temple College Leopards men's basketball squad continued North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play on Saturday as they hosted Collin County Community College at Kirby Johnson Court.'

Temple's ten-point second half lead came under siege by the Cougars in the final minute before two late stops cemented the Leopards win, 81-76.

The Leopards and Cougars traded the lead early before Temple grabbed a 19-14 lead with 11:38 to play in the first half.

Collin grabbed a 30-29 lead with 5:54 to play in the half, only to watch the Leopards respond with a 10-6 to close the opening 20 minutes. TC led at the break, 39-38.

Temple's 13-8 start to the second half opened a 52-46 lead. The Leopards opened a ten-point advantage, 73-63, with just under two minutes to play.

The Cougars' 13-5 stretch over the final 3:38 pulled Collin to within two points, 78-76, with 11 seconds to go.

The Leopards forced a pair of loose ball turnovers near the Collin bench. Jaymes Brown-Peterson hit a pair of free-throws to ice the game.

Temple converted 18-of 27 free-throw opportunities and hit five three-pointers.

Josh Telfort led the Leopards with 23 points, which included 5-of-7 from the free-throw line, Storm Gilchrist added 14 points, Camren Roper and Rasuan College added 11 points, and Brown-Peterson chipped in ten.

Collin County converted 24-of-32 free-throws, while they drained five three-pointers.

David Emelife led the Cougars with 20 points, while Garrett Falls added 17 points, and Brady Kennison poured in 12.

The Leopards continue conference play on Wednesday evening as they will host the Grayson College Vikings at Kirby Johnson Court Wednesday at 7 pm.
