The Temple College men's basketball team qualified for the fourth seed out of the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
Their fourth-place finish landed them a rematch with No. 8 South Plains College, the Western Junior College Athletic Conference No. 1 seed.
The West 1-North 4 game will be played on Wednesday at 1 pm at The Highlands gymnasium at McLennan Community College in Waco.
Temple (18-12) and SPC (24-6) met in the Texan Classic on Nov. 22, a game that the Texans won 88-53.
Isaac Taveras scored 22 points and Devontes Cobbs added 13 for the Texans.
TC's balanced scoring was led by Roy Gardner with ten points, Josh Telfort with nine points, and Logan Myers with eight points.
Temple has averaged 78.1 points per game and yields 75.7 points. The Leopards average 39.6% from the field, 27% from behind the three-point line, 64% from the free-throw stripe, 44.3 rebounds, 19.9 assists, 14.8 steals, and 1.2 blocks per contest.
Telfort (14.9 ppg), Jaymes Brown-Peterson (9.6 ppg), Rasuan Collier (8.2 ppg), and Camren Roper (7.0 ppg) are the leading scorers for Temple. Storm Gilchrist (14.5 ppg in conference) has missed significant time due to injury.
South Plains have averaged 84.7 points per game and yields 72.8 points. The Texans average 49.3% from the floor, 35.6% from beyond the arc, 70.4% from the free-throw line, 38.7 rebounds, 16.7 assists, 8.7 steals, and 4.2 blocks.
Taveras (16.9 ppg, 8.3 rebounds), Jalen Ricks (12.9 ppg), Caleb Blackwell (12.5 ppg, 6.1 assists), and Arterio Morris (11.5 ppg) lead the Texans in scoring.
Common opponents of the two include Angelina College (TC 0-1, SPC 0-1), Weatherford College (TC 0-2, SPC 0-1), Collin County Community College (TC 1-1, SPC 1-0), Hill College (TC 2-0, SPC 1-1), and Frank Phillips College (TC 0-1, 2-0).
The winner will take on the Weatherford College – Midland College winner on Friday at 1 pm.
