The Temple College Leopards and South Plains College Texans faced off in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 Region V Men's Basketball Tournament at The Highlands on the campus of McLennan Community College in Waco.
Though the game stayed close throughout its entirety, South Plains held off the Leopards late to win, 85-77.
The Leopards ended their season with an 18-13 record.
Temple jumped out to an early 7-0 just 2:02 into the game, with Josh Telfort and Jaymes Brown-Peterson having combined for the opening points.
The Leopards stretched the lead to eight points, 15-7, with 14:42 to play in the first half.
South Plains took its first lead with 10:52 after a 14-5 run was capped with a John Awoke three-pointer to put the Texans on top, 21-20.
Rasuan Collier took the Temple lead back with a three-point shot with 9:07 to go in the opening half.
SPC tied the game at 36-36 with 2:33 to go on a three-pointer by Jalen Ricks.
The Texans led the game at halftime, 43-41.
The teams traded the lead back and forth four times early in the second half before SPC opened a six-point lead with 16:05 to play.
Temple closed the game to a pair of points twice, as Logan Myers and Storm Gilchrist hit baskets.
South Plains opened up a game-high nine-point lead with 8:08 to go, 74-65.
The Leopards pulled to within four points down the stretch, but could not overcome the margin and fell by eight points.
Temple shot 46.9% from the floor, 28% from beyond the arc, and 10-of-22 from the free-throw line.
Telfort led the Leopards with 24 and eight rebounds. Gilchrist had 11 points and four rebounds, and Brown added ten points and five rebounds off the bench.
South Plains shot 50% from the field, 26.9% from behind the three-point line, and 61.5% from the charity stripe.
Ricks scored 19 points and four rebounds off the bench. Issac Taveras added 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks. IJ Ezuma scored nine points and ten rebounds, Morris added nine points and seven rebounds, and Caleb Blackwell chipped in nine points.
The sophomores who played their final game for the Leopards are Logan Myers, Camren Roper, Rasuan Collier, Harry Bates, and Eben Effah.
