Men’s basketball faces tough test Wednesday against No. 24 Kilgore College

The Temple College men's basketball will face its first ranked team of the season Wednesday evening at Kirby Johnson Court, as No. 24 Kilgore College will take on the Leopards.

Tip-off is at 6 pm.

The Leopards took on the Rangers in Kilgore Nov. 2, 2024, with Temple having taken home an 80-71 win. Josh Telfort and Eben Effah each had 15 points and Logan Myers added 14. Cahmai Crosby led all scorers with 25 points for the Rangers, with Kaiden Myers having added 20, and Joshua Olutayo having scored 12.

The 3-1 Leopards are coming off a 110-82 win over Dallas College – Cedar Valley Monday night. After the Suns scored the opening basket, the Leopards led the rest of the way.

While the starting five (Josh Telfort, Jason Ward, Jaymes Brown-Peterson, Roy Gardner, and Harry Bates) for the Leopards combined for 69 points, the bench supported the cause with 41 points.

Temple is averaging 104.8 points per game and have allowed 84.

Telfort (14.5), Brown-Peterson (14.3), Bates (13.8), Gardner (11.5), and Ward (10.8) collectively have averaged 64.9 points per game as a starting unit. Bates (6.8), Ward (6.0), Ovie Agbigbe (5.3), Brown-Peterson (4.8), and Telfort (4.5) have paced the Leopards in rebounds.

Kilgore (4-0) is coming off a 69-57 win against Southern University-Shreveport. The Rangers average 91.3 points per game and allow 53.3 points per contest. The Rangers shoot 50.6% from the field, 44% from behind the three-point line, and 63.4 from the charity stripe. They pull in 44.8 rebounds, dish out 18 assists, and average 11.5 steals a game.

Antoine Shannon (16.5 points per game), Antonio Shannon, Jr. (15.3 ppg) and Myers (14.8 ppg) are the Rangers' leading scorers.

Following Wednesday's contest, the Leopards will host Dallas College – North Lake at 4 pm on Saturday at Kirby Johnson Court.
