TC men’s basketball opens home conference play against Ranger College

The Temple College Leopards men's basketball team will host the Ranger College Rangers at Kirby Johnson Court on Wednesday at 7 pm.

The matchup tips off North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play for both teams.

Temple won their last contest, outlasting Coastal Bend College in overtime, 94-90.

Ovie Agbigbe scored a season-high 28 points off the bench, while Josh Telfort chipped in 18, and Harry Bates added 11.

Temple (9-7) swept the 2024-2025 series against the Rangers, having won 89-83 on the road and 82-55 at the friend confines of Kirby Johnson Court. The Leopards have won the last three games in the series, dating back to Feb. 17, 2024.

Through 16 games, Temple has scored 90.4 points on average and has allowed 87 points. The Leopards shoot 46.1% from the field, which includes 32.2% from behind the three-point arc, and covert 64.7% at the free-throw line. TC averages 41.6 rebounds, 16.9 assists, 12.1 steals, and 4.3 blocks per contest.

Telfort (13.6 ppg), Roy Gardner (11.9 ppg), Jaymes Brown-Peterson (11.3 ppg), Bates (10.4 ppg), Agbigbe (8.8 ppg), and Byron Piper (8.1 ppg) have all been vital cogs in the Temple offensive output.

Ranger's last outing was an 83-67 home loss to Eastern Arizona College. Cam Brown led the Rangers with 21 points.

Through 16 games this season, Ranger has averaged 76.3 points offensively and surrendered 78.3 points. The Rangers shoot 44.7% from the field, which includes 31.2% from beyond the arc, and 66.3% from the charity stripe. Ranger has averaged 39.5 rebounds, 17.8 assists, 7.3 steals, and 4.2 blocks.

Brown (19.1 ppg), Mafatime Ndiaye (11.5 ppg), Gavin Headings (10.6 ppg), and Devin Whitten (9.7 ppg) are the offensive leaders for Ranger.

Following Wednesday's game, the Leopards will have back-to-back conference road games, taking on Collin County Community College on Saturday and Grayson College on Jan. 14.
