The Temple College women's basketball team hosted the Coastal Bend College Cougars in a Tuesday night non-conference at Kirby Johnson Court.

The Leopards' 10-0 burst 2:23 into the contest set the tone for another opportunity for TC to test its bench early as Temple defeated the Cougars, 83-44.

Gabby Edo established herself in the paint early, and the Leopards found her for early scoring opportunities. Korina Garcia, Ke'Myreul Wheaton and Sy'Nariea Snow also chipped in on the 10-0 run.

From the point of Coastal's first basket, the Leopards outscored the Cougars 17-10 to lead by 15 points at the end of the opening period, 27-12.

Both defenses forced multiple turnovers in the second quarter, as the Leopards outscored Coastal in the period, 12-11, and took a 16-point lead into the locker room with the score at 39-23.

Temple blasted out of the locker room and outscored Coastal in the third quarter, 28-10. Wheaton and Raniyah Hunt combined on 11 of the team's 28 points, as TC led at the end of the third quarter, 67-33.

The Leopards did not score a field goal in the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter, but got late field goals from Snow and Wheaton as Temple outscored the Cougars in the final stanza, 13-11.

Temple was 19-of-31 from the free-throw line and drained five three-pointers.

Wheaton led the Leopards with 14 points, while Hunt and Daija Mitchell each scored ten points, and Garcia and Antronea Jackson each contributed nine points.

The Leopards held the Cougars to 12 field goals in the game, six from beyond the three-point arc. Coastal Bend went 14-of-23 from the charity stripe.

Lean Sanchez Perez led all scorers with 17 points, including five three-pointers.

Temple (2-0) will travel to Tyler on Friday to take part in the Tyler Junior College Classic at Wagstaff Gymnasium. On Friday at 5 pm, the Leopards take on National Park College. On Saturday, the Leopards play Tyler Junior College at 3 pm.
