TC women’s basketball to face tough competition at Tyler JC Classic

The 2-0 Temple College women's basketball team will face its toughest competition of the early season this weekend, as they play two games at the Tyler Junior College Classic at Wagstaff Gymnasium.

Temple started the season this past Saturday with a 91-40 win over Palo Alto College and added an 83-44 victory over Coastal Bend College on Tuesday.

TC is averaging 87 points per game, shooting 34% from the field, 25.5% from behind the three-point arc, 57-7% from the free-throw line, outrebounding opponents 129-21, including 66-4 on the offensive boards, 26.5 steals, 21.5 assists, and 6.5 blocks.

Eight Leopards are averaging seven points per game or better through the first two contests, led Kyla Clark and Ke'Myreul Wheaton (10.5 ppg) Raniya Hunt (.5 ppg) and Sy'Nariea Snow (9.0 ppg).

On Friday at 5 pm, the Leopards face NJCAA Division II powerhouse National Park College.

The 1-0 Nighthawks thumped Arkansas Baptist College on Monday in Hot Springs, 120-39. NPC led ABC at the half, 62-8.

Five Nighthawks scored in double-figures, led by Layla Tell's 20 points off the bench. Wila Davis added 18 points, Landrey Richardson chipped in 17, and Adrianna Jackson poured in 15.

On Saturday at 3 p.m., the Leopards take on Tyler Junior College.

Last Saturday, the Apaches downed Western Gulf Collegiate in Houston, 82-55. Monica Bottler scored 30 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. Tyler shot 47% from the field and an impressive 85% (17-of-20) from the charity stripe.

Following the Leopards tournament stay in Tyler, Temple will travel to Lufkin to take on Angelina College on Wednesday before an eight-day layoff before the Western Texas Classic in Tyler.
