The Temple College Leopards women's basketball team went into Tuesday night's game at Kirby Johnson Court with an opportunity to build upon the momentum of a three-game winning streak and their success at the Western Texas College last weekend.
To do that, they took on a talented University of Mary Hardin-Baylor JV squad.
The Leopards gradually built a big lead in the first half and worked their way to a 78-38 win.
TC (7-1) took a 16-8 lead in the first quarter, with Korina Garcia snapping off three field goals, including a 25-foot three-pointer.
The Leopards took control of the game in the second quarter, when Gabby Edo established her paint presence with a trio of field goals and Raniyah Hunt drained back-to-back field goals during a 25-8 stretch to give Temple a 41-16 lead at halftime.
Hunt hit back-to-back three-pointers and Antronea Jackson hit a long-ranged three-pointer that brought the Leopards to their feet in the third quarter as part of the 19-10 period to give Temple a 60-26 advantage by the end of the period.
Edo capped off her superb night in the paint with eight points in the final stanza, all four buckets from right beneath the basket.
The Leopards shot 8-of-20 from the free-throw line and drilled eight three-pointers.
Edo led the Leopards with 17 points, Garcia added 15, Hunt contributed 12, and Jackson poured in 11.
Natalia Galvan led all scorers with 23 points, going 8-of-8 from the free-throw line for UMHB. Abby Levings and Allie Uzzell each added six points for the Cru.
The Leopards return to action Dec. 5 against Tyler Junior College in the opening night of the Temple Classic.
