The Temple College Athletics Department has had a busy week in all five sports.
While TC Volleyball is in the midst of North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play, men's and women's basketball are in the beginning stretches of their preseasons, and baseball and softball are in the September schedule of their fall seasons.
With another busy week ahead for the Leopards, let us look back at last weeks action on this edition of the Leopards Athletic Report:
TC Volleyball continues to battle despite winless conference record
The TC Volleyball has battled through trying times this season. Through the adversity, the continues to perform on the court.
On Wednesday, the Leopards hosted the second-place Ranger College Rangers.
It was a battle in the first game that went down to the wire, a second game where nothing went right, and a third game that looked much in the way of the first. In the end, Ranger swept Temple, 3-0. The scores of the match were 26-24. 25-7, and 25-21.
Sarah Rodriguez, Lana Wright, and Grace Schneider each had five kills. Abbie Soileau had 15 assists and Karlee Williamson contributed ten. Yasmine Traore had ten digs, Soileau added nine, and Hanna Ward contributed eight.
On Saturday, the Leopards traveled to Hillsboro to take on Hill College.
Hill was able to force Temple out of tempo early, as the Rebels' front line dropped key shots in the Leopards' zone and warded off a late TC attack to sweep the match, 3-0. Scores of the contest were 25-13, 25-9, and 25-23.
Where do the Leopards sit
Temple is 6-13 overall, and 0-6 in NTJCAC play. They are four games out of the final playoff spot in the NTJCAC with 12 games to go, three in the first half of conference play remaining.
What is next for the Leopards
A very hungry Southwestern Christian College Rams (0-18 overall, 0-6 NTJCAC) are in the same boat as Temple, seeking their first conference win of the season. Game time is Wednesday at 6 pm on Kirby Johnson Court.
Southwestern lost a pair of three-game matches at Weatherford College (25-5, 25-11, 25-8) and against Vernon College (25-16, 25-17, 25-11).
Southwestern has won just two games within their 18 matches this season, and have not won an in-match game since Aug. 29, after they led Independence Community College 2-0 at the Dallas College Richland Tournament. Since that time, the Rams have dropped 33 straight in-match games.
On Saturday, the Leopards will face No. 3 Weatherford College (17-2 overall, 6-0 NTJCAC) in a critical road test at 1 pm.
The Coyotes are on a six-game win streak which followed back-to-back sweep losses to No. 1 Florida Southwestern State College (25-13, 25-17, 25-19) and No. 2 Miami Dade College (25-21, 25-20, 28-26). Weatherford began the season on a 12-game winning streak, dropping a single game to NCTC in a non-conference match.
