The Temple College Volleyball team traveled to take on North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference leader Weatherford College, ranked the No. 3 team in the NJCAA Division I rankings this week.
The Coyotes came out strong, as did the Leopards. The hitters for Weatherford were on full display, as Weronika Urbanska, GloryBell Puente, Beline Thibault, and Gabriella Maldonado provided much of the firepower behind the sweep of the Leopards.
Scores of the match were 25-16, 25-12, and 25-14.
Weatherford jumped out to a 7-1 lead, with Lana Wright's kill providing Temple's lone point of the opening stretch. Wright, Hanna Ward, and Yasmine Traore picked up kills helped pull the Leopards within three points.
The Coyotes pulled away on a 10-3 run to end game one.
In game two, Urbanska picked up two of the Coyotes' first three points via kills.
Abbie Soileau had back-to-back aces toward the middle strains of the second, as Temple pulled to within three points, 11-8.
Urbanska and Puente combined for four kills down the stretch before the teams combined for five service errors over a nine-point string late in the game. Grace Schneider's kill staved off the first Weatherford game point, but a service ace by Urbanska clinched game two.
The Coyotes jumped out to a 4-1 lead in game three, with Urbanska figuring in on two points with kills.
Wright, Schneider, and Traore picked up kills toward the middle stage of the game. However, the Coyotes front line got their hands in the hitting lanes and prolonged volleys into points.
The Leopards will take on Vernon College on Wednesday at 6 pm at Kirby Johnson Court.
