Leopards Athletic Report (Week of Oct. 13-19)

Leopards Athletic Report (Week of Oct. 13-19)

The Temple College Athletics program had all five teams in action over this past week, with volleyball taking on NCTC and Ranger, men's basketball playing at the GASO Jamboree, women's basketball playing an exhibition against Trinity Valley Community College, baseball playing a fall scrimmage against St. Edward's University, and softball playing fall scrimmages against at Abilene Christian University and Houston Christian University.

Aside from the action on the courts and ball fields, TC Softball's artificial grass has been laid by Symmetry Sports Construction, and TC Baseball's grass is not far behind.

As we make our procession through October into the winter sports transition, here is a recap of last week's action and this week's schedule ahead in Temple College athletics.

Leopards Volleyball knocks off NCTC, drop decision at Ranger

The Temple College volleyball had a pair of matches this past week, as they continued through the second half of North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play.

On Wednesday, the Leopards hosted North Central Texas College in a match at Kirby Johnson Court.

In a match similar to one played against the Lions in Gainesville on Sept. 13, The Leopards fought through five tough sets. This time, the Leopards emerged with the win, 3-2.

The scores of the match were 18-25, 25-15, 25-20, 21-25, and 15-13.

The Leopards scored the first point in all five games

Temple picked up 64 kills in the match, a season-high for a five-game match, and second-highest since registering 68 against Lee College on Sept. 6. Yasmine Traore led the Leopards with 17 kills, Kharma Brown added 12, Lana Wright contributed 11, Grace Schneider added ten, and Sarah Rodriguez chipped in nine.

TC's 62 assists was one better than their season-high 61 set against the Lions in Gainesville on Sept. 13. Williamson led the Leopards with a season-high 55 assists, 20 more than her 35 against Dallas College Richland on Sept. 1 and has a three-game stretch of 107 assists.

The Leopards' 122 digs obliterated their previous season-high of 80 against Cisco College on Oct. 8. Hanna Ward's 37 digs shattered her previous high of 27 set against Lee College on Sept. 6. Rodriguez's 31 digs were 20 more than her previous high of 11 set twice this season. Williamson added 15, Abbie Soileau chipped in 14, and Traore contributed 10.

The Leopards took to the road on Saturday for a rematch against Ranger College.

Temple struggled at the start, but remained competitive despite being swept by the Rangers. The scores of the match were 25-19, 25-20, and 25-21.

With the game tied at 17-17 in the first set, Ranger finished game one with an 8-2 run.

The Leopards scratched and clawed to stay even with the Rangers. While Temple led just once in the game, 14-13, the Leopards kept up until the Rangers' 8-3 stretch late. Wright had an ace and two kills down the stretch.

Ranger was poised to run away with game three, having led 9-5, and pulled out to a 24-16 lead to force game and match point.

The Leopards broke game point four times, with Wright, Traore, and Kenedee Pennington combining for a quartet of kills. On the fifth try, the Rangers closed out the game and the match.

Brown had 11 kills, Traore had 13 digs and 11 kills, Williamson had 30 assists and 15 digs, Ward had 16 digs, and Wright chipped in ten kills and three blocks.

The week ahead features a home match against Hill College on Wednesday at 6 pm on Kirby Johnson Court and a road contest at Southwestern Christian College in Terrell at 1 pm Saturday.

Women's basketball continues tune-up for 2025-2026 season against TVCC

The Temple College women's basketball team is just under two weeks away from their 2025-2026 home opener.

On Friday, the Leopards hosted Trinity Valley Community College in an exhibition contest at Kirby Johnson Court.

The Leopards and Cardinals play four tough 10-minute quarters, with each having powerful stretches whether the combination of solid offense and suffocating defense dominated the scrimmage.

Temple College will have one more scrimmage against Mary Hardin-Baylor (Saturday at Mayborn Campus Center in Belton) before the regular season begins on Nov. 1 at home against Palo Alto College.

Men's basketball splits at GASO Jamboree

The Temple College men's basketball team took part in the 2025 Great American Shootout (GASO) JUCO Jamboree at Duncanville Field House on Friday.

In the opening game, the Leopards took on Trinity Valley Community College.

The prolific offense of the Cardinals showed early, as TVCC won by 20 points, 65-45.

In the final game of the day, the Leopards took on the Odessa College Wranglers.

The Leopards fared better against the Wranglers, as they won the scrimmage, 59-45.

Temple will finish their scrimmage schedule on Friday in Baytown as they will take on the Lee College Navigators.

Baseball hit road for scrimmage against Div. II St. Edwards

The Temple College baseball team took on NCAA Div. II St. Edward's University Saturday in Austin.

The teams took part in a 14-inning scrimmage, with both teams getting solid playing time against non-conventional opposition.

Peanut Brazzle had four hits and Wade Stallones had two homers and four RBI to lead the Leopards' 19-hit offensive attack. Kash Millar added three hits, and Ricky Montijo, Ryan Hunter, and Bryton Bertrand each collected two hits. The Leopards walked 12 times over 14 innings.

Temple used ten pitchers over the 14 innings, as they allowed 20 hits, walked nine and struck out 18.

The Leopards will complete their fall exhibition season Thursday in Waco at Bosque River Ballpark against McLennan Community College.

Softball faced two Div. I opponents in Abilene Christian, Houston Christian

The Temple College softball team continued their fall schedule last week as they played road exhibitions at Abilene Christian University on Wednesday and at Houston Baptist on Saturday.

Temple played a seven-inning scrimmage against the Wildcats and fared well, having allotted seven hits over seven innings and used a two-run fifth inning and five-run seventh inning to fuel the successful ending.

Kaiyah Ratu had a home run, three hits, and four runs batted in to lead the TC nine-hit attack. Lexi Dudeczka added two hits and two runs scored, and Jazmine Benavidez contributed two hits.

Reese Cottrell, Kat Kram, and Izzy Garcia combined on a seven-hitter, allowed one earned run on seven hits, struck out four and walked one.

On Saturday, the Leopards' offense could not solve the solid Husky pitching as they mustered five hits over the ten innings played.

Amyah Starks had two of the Leopards three hits in the second game, Angie DeLeon had hits in both ends of the twin-bill, and Cottrell added a hit.

The Leopards' pitching allowed six earned runs on 17 hits, five strikeouts and four walks over the ten innings.

The Leopards will face Concordia University in Austin on Saturday and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at Dee Dillon Field in Belton on Sunday.
