The Temple College Leopards volleyball team will conclude their 2025 season with a road trip to Vernon College on Saturday.
First serve is at 1 pm.
Temple (9-21 overall, 3-14 NTJCAC) dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 2 Weatherford College on Wednesday, by scores of 25-9, 25-10, and 25-14.
Kharma Brown had six kills, Lana Wright and Yasmine Traore each had five. Karlee Williamson logged 18 assists and Hanna Ward had 16 digs.
Vernon (17-9 overall, 11-6 NTJCAC) is coming off a thrilling five-game, come-from-behind match Wednesday against Collin County Community College in Frisco. The Chaps trailed 2-0 before they emerged with a 3-2 win. Scores of the match were 20-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-23, and 15-10.
When Temple hosted Vernon on Oct. 1, the Leopards and Chaparrals were tied 1-1 before Vernon pulled away for the 3-1 win.
Brianna Moreno had 11 kills and five digs to pace the Chaps. Karina Perez had 17 digs and Chloey Dress assisted on 12 kills.
Grace Schneider had 13 kills, Abbie Soileau had 25 assists, Williamson had a double-double with 16 assists and 14 kills, and Ward had 17 digs and eight assists.
Spoiler Alert!
With a road win on Saturday, Temple still has an opportunity to shift Vernon's playoff picture in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
The Saturday match will have a direct impact on the North seedings for the upcoming Region V Tournament. North Central Texas College (7-10) takes on Hill College (12-5), Weatherford College (17-0) hosts Cisco College (9-8), Collin (5-12) travels to Ranger College (11-6), and McLennan Community College (10-7) will take on Southwestern Christian College (0-17) in Terrell.
While Weatherford has had the North's top seed locked for the past week, the second through fourth seeds have had plenty of shifting over the past week leading to the Saturday schedule. Hill (12-5) sits in second place, Vernon and Ranger are deadlocked in a third-place tie, and MCC is in fifth.
This season, Vernon is 0-2 against Hill, 1-1 against Ranger, and 2-0 against MCC.
Ranger is 1-1 against Hill, Vernon, and MCC.
MCC is 1-1 against Hill and Ranger, and 0-2 against Vernon.
So, eyes will be on the NTJCAC scoreboard Saturday afternoon.
As topsy-turvy as the second through fifth spots in the NT have been the last two weeks, the West has two separate battles.
The Western Junior College Athletic Conference playoff race is as tumultuous, with Frank Phillips College and Odessa College (11-2) locked in a tie for first place. New Mexico Military Institute (10-3) in third place battling for the top three seeds, and Amarillo College, Midland College, Clarendon College, and New Mexico Junior College (5-8) in a four-way tie for the final Western seed.
Western's Saturday schedule includes Clarendon at Midland, Amarillo against Frank Phillips in Borger, Amarillo versus Western Texas College in Snyder, and the battle of New Mexico with NMJC at NMMI in Roswell.
So going into Saturday, Weatherford has the only seed secured in the Region V Tournament they will host at Betty Graber Center this Thursday through Saturday (Nov. 6-8).
