The Temple College Softball team began their weekend series on Saturday at the Wrangler Softball Complex in Odessa.
In their opening game, the Leopards faced the Luna Community College Rough Riders.
Reese Cottrell and Ryley Litchfield hit three-run homers to highlight Temple's 12-hit performance as the Leopards run-ruled the Rough Riders, 14-2.
Cottrell's three-run blast in the first and Litchfield's RBI single gave Temple a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
The outburst aided Cottrell's efforts in the circle, as she pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed two runs, on solo homers, three hits, and struck out four.
Litchfield's three-run homer came in Temple's five-run third inning. Cottrell's RBI single proceeded Litchfield's shot, and Lexi Dudeczka's RBI double scored Marli Kennedy to put the Leopards up 9-0. Dudecka later hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Following Dudeczka's sacrifice fly, Myah Starks' two-run triple, Kayah Ratu's RBI single, and Jasmine Benavidez's RBI double lifted Temple's lead to 12, 14-2.
Following the Luna win, the Leopards took on No. 6 Odessa College in their first ranked game of the season.
Temple rallied from six runs down in the top of the seventh to tie the game. However, a walk-off single by Maret Willeke scored Angelique Iredale to upend the Leopards, 9-8.
Cottrell singled home Dudeczka and Angie DeLeon's sacrifice fly scored Ratu to give Temple a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning.
The Wranglers struck in the bottom of the second on Willeke's RBI double and Alyssa Smith's two-run homer to give Odessa a 3-2 lead.
Odessa added onto the lead with an Riley Cassidy two-run homer in the third, Iredale sacrifice fly and Cassidy RBI double in the fifth, and Jaycie Pacheco solo homer in the sixth.
Jayda Lorigan was cruising through six innings before running into trouble in the top of the seventh. Dudeczka, Ratu, and Cottrell each had RBI singles, and DeLeon added an RBI double before Lorigan was lifted for Seniah Haines. Benavidez's RBI single tied the game 8-8.
An error landed Iredale at first base to lead off the bottom of the seventh. Iredale stole second base and moved to third on Cassidy's fly out. On a 1-0 pitch, Willeke singled to right field to score Iredale and clinched the win for the Wranglers.
The Leopards had 11 hits in the contest, led by Dudeczka with three hits, and Ratu and Cottrell with two. DeLeon had three runs batted in and Cottrell added two.
Izzy Garcia pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed three runs on two hits, struck out four and walked one. Kat Kram pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowed five runs (two earned) on three hits, struck out three and walked two. Cottrell pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed a run on one hit.
The Leopards return to action Sunday morning in Odessa. Temple plays the Wranglers at 10 am, followed by Luna at noon.
